Dr. Brockmann as Co-Chair at the „German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium“ 2017 in Ohio
Dr.-Ing. Matthias Brockmann, the new chief executive of the CoE since April 1, was a guest of the “German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium” (GAFOE) in Evendale, Ohio, from March 31 until April 2 as a Co-Chair. It was a special honor, because only 30 of the best engineers each from Germany and the USA are invited to this event by GE Aviation and the National Academy of Engineering, which was organized in cooperation with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and takes place every year alternating between Germany and the USA.
The symposium offered a great possibility to create an extended interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge. Hence, it was possible for the experts to exchange knowledge with the representatives of the industry about various scientific themes of the four main areas “Industry 4.0 vs. Internet of Things”, “Streams of Water and Information”, “Advanced Manufacturing” and “Gene Editing” via several sessions. Topics of the Cluster’s expertise such as “Industry 4.0 vs. Internet of Things” and the lecture about “Advanced Manufacturing” with Matthias Brockmann as Session Co-Chair, were represented. In this context he could choose Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Inform. Petra Wiederkehr from TU Dortmund and Chief Engineer Dr.-Ing. Daniel Meyer from the University of Bremen as two German speakers. As part of the symposium it was possible to refine current CoE themes in an international exchange, such as “Internet of Production”, a centerpiece of the industry 4.0 research, which constitutes a central topic for the realignment of the cluster research.
